Our Philosophy on Feline Nutrition
At Blue Aura Russian Blues, we believe that proper nutrition is one of the foundations of a cat's long-term health and well-being. We are committed to providing our cats and kittens with a species-appropriate diet that supports their growth, development, and overall quality of life.
Cats are obligate carnivores, meaning they require nutrients naturally found in animal tissues. With this in mind, we have chosen to raise our cats primarily on a raw meat-based diet rather than conventional dry kibble.
Our feeding philosophy is centered around three principles: quality nutrition, individual needs, and allowing kittens to develop at their own pace.
Our Raw Food Supplier
At Blue Aura Russian Blues, we carefully select our raw food suppliers to ensure our cats and kittens receive high-quality nutrition.
We currently source our raw food from Mad Butcher Meat Co., located in Sacramento, California, and Fetching Food, based in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mad Butcher Meat Co. provides the foundation of our cats' everyday diet, while we supplement their meals with additional premium raw cat food from Fetching Food. Both suppliers offer products made with human-grade meat sourced from USDA-inspected facilities, which is an important consideration in our selection process.
We believe that the quality and sourcing of ingredients matter just as much as how the food is prepared.
Understanding a Balanced Raw Diet
Raw feeding involves more than simply offering fresh meat. A thoughtfully formulated diet must provide the essential nutrients cats need to thrive.
One commonly used raw-feeding guideline is the 80/10/10 ratio, consisting of:
80% muscle meat
10% organs
10% bone
We choose suppliers that offer pre-blended raw food, allowing us to maintain a consistent feeding routine without preparing every blend ourselves.
Maintaining Consistency at Home
We encourage our kitten families to become familiar with the foods their kittens have been raised on and to maintain a consistent feeding routine during the transition into their new homes.
Not all raw meat products are nutritionally complete, even when made with premium ingredients. We recommend choosing formulas specifically designed to meet the nutritional requirements of your cat's life stage, especially during kittenhood.
Before each kitten leaves Blue Aura, we provide personalized feeding recommendations based on the kitten's established diet, individual preferences, and developmental needs.
